The following is a very slapped together show notes. They'll be updated into a more readable format soon.

Welcome to yet another edition of Training Officer’s Message for the month of March hosted by yours truly 2Lt Bradley.

We started out last month with the biathlon team going to provincial competition in Canmore. Unfortunately, no one placed for Nationals, but the cadets put on a good showing and had fun. Cpl Lucas Crockett also received the Perseverance Award from LCol Leo Brodeur, the Commanding Officer of Regional Cadet Support Unit (Prairie).

That very same weekend was Superbowl Sunday. I’m not a big football fan, but I am a huge fan of commercials. I wasn’t disappointed this year, with the big winner being the Volkswagen Darth Vader commercial (youtube.com/adblitz). I’m also quite proud of the fact that I picked the winning football team based solely on the fact that their fans wear cheese on their heads. Go Packers!

The next weekend, coming up on Valentine’s Day, 145 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps put together a day of sports on the 12 and topped it off with a dance. The cadets enjoyed a day of fun playing floor hockey, and also participating in Cross Country Ski Races. The dance was also a lot of fun with a DJ who really knew his stuff.

NSCE candidates continue to study for the second part of their big exam coming up at the end of March. Capt Gerbrandt has been working with them on Mondays at the armouries for 2 hours at a time.

We continued our monthly Swim nights on the last Tuesday of every month. We’d like to see a better turnout. Next month.

No cadets during reading week. Hope you took the time to read a book, go for a run, spend time with family, watch Vampire Diaries, or whatever else.

Feeling down about not sleeping in the mud this weekend? No worries! Would an FTX at Rocky Mountain National Army Cadet Summer Training Center help? Good, because that's exactly what I'm super-excited to announce today.

On 21 May 2010, we will be joining Army Cadet units from Edmonton, Vermillion, and Calgary on what's certain to be an excitiing adventure-based weekend filled with abseiling, mountain biking, hiking, marksmanship, and orienteering!

This is looking  to be an amazing opportunity, so please mark it on your calendars!

More information will be released in the coming weeks.

OP Batus Badger is CANCELLED

OP Batus Badger has been canceled due to the weather. Unfortunately, the kind of precipitation that we are receiving means that we will not be able to access our training site in Suffield due to the mud. We hope to reschedule a range day for another time.

This means that it will be business as usual on Thursday.  C-2a (that's summer dress) for all cadets except Red Stars. Red stars will be shooting and will therefore need to wear combats or similar.

Happy Holidays

Parents and Cadets,

Well another year has come and gone.  We have so far had a very successful year with a fun filled FTX, a trip to Calgary for the museum and some shopping and our very own boys’ biathlon team moving on the provincial competition.

As we are about to wind down for Christmas, I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you very Happy Holidays and all of the best in 2010 on behalf of myself and the staff of 2313 SALH RCACC (Kiwanis).

2010 and will bring some wonderful opportunities for your cadet.  With the start of the new year we will be getting our shooting program up and running.  We are also looking at doing 2 more FTX’s, a trip out to BATUS, Drill Competition and the Amazing Race to name a few things.

Here are some dates we would like you to keep in mind.

18-DEC – Cadet Mess Dinner.  Cadets are to arrive at the Medicine Hat Legion at 6:00 pm in full dress uniform.  The dinner should be done at 9:00 pm.

3-JAN – Bottle Drive at two locations. Cadets are to meet at Crescent Heights Co-op or Old Canadian Tire Location.  Timings are 10-4.  Cadets are to dress for the weather.  Parents if you can help out that would be greatly appreciated.

7-JAN – First Cadet Parade night of the year.  Cadets are to be in full dress uniform.

So on behalf of all of us staff at 2313, Happy Holidays and we look forward to seeing you all back in the New Year.

J. Gebhardt
Lt
DCO
2313 SALH RCACC (Kiwanis)

First off I'd like to say congratulations on a successful FTX this past weekend. Despite a few snags, the first corps FTX of the year went very well. Some photos have been posted already. If anybody has more they'd like posted, please get them to me.

This week is CO's Parade. Dress for Thursday is your Full Dress uniform. Make sure pants are ironed and boots are shone. If you don't yet have it, wear your black shirt with good pants and shoes as per usual. Every body must bring PT gear, including running shoes, to change into after the parade. Jeans are not acceptable PT gear.

Wednesday night Biathlon practice has been canceled  this week as Lt Gebhardt has the flu.

Remembrance Day cenotaph party members need to remember to be at the Armouries this Wednesday at 1900hrs (7:00pm). Dress is appropriate civilians. Bring your parade boots.

Permission slips went home with cadets on Sunday for the Museum of the Regiments Tour in Calgary happening on 21 Nov 09. They need to be returned NLT 05 Nov 09 in order to participate. More permission slips will be handed out on Thursday night for those cadets who were not on the FTX.
