I just installed a nice little tool on this site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

October already - can you believe it? I had to check my calendar twice before putting it in this post's title.

Thanks to all those cadets that helped with the Kiwanis' Apple Drive a success this past weekend. It's great to be able to help out our sponsor.

Dress this week is summer dress with black corps t-shirt.That's beret, corps shirt, green pants (with belt) and highly shone parade boots. For those cadets who don't yet have uniforms, please wear your black corps t-shirt with long pants and runners.

Those cadets going on Wilderness Challenge need to bring their kit with them on Thursday night so that we can make sure you have everything.

Green (that's new cadets) and Red Stars will have their CHAP (Cadet Harassment and Abuse Prevention) training on Saturday. Timings are to be announced. It's also at this time that we will get through sizing of uniforms for the new cadets.

New Gravatar feature

So I just updated the blogging software for the website and I noticed that I had an option to add Gravatars fairly easily to the comments section. What is a Gravatar you ask? Allow me to quote the Gravatar website:

A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums, so why not on any site?
How do I get a gravatar?
Signing up for a gravatar.com account is FREE, and all that's required is your email address. Once you've signed up you can upload your avatar image and soon after you'll start seeing it on gravatar enabled sites!

So basically, you make an account with Gravatar.com, and as long as you use the same email address for that account as you did for this site, you should start seeing your own avatar show up beside your comment.

What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea? Let us know in the comments section below.

UPDATE: Changed my mind and got rid of the feature.

As promised, Amazin Race photos are finally posted. The upload was over 300MB, and simply wasn't possible before. Sorry that it took so long. Enjoy!

Tim Horton's Camp Day Photos

I just remembered that I had these photos from Tim Horton's Camp Day back in the beginning of June. Cadets Robert and Brooke Rae did a great job representing us at the downtown Tim Horton's. The photos can now be found in our photo album.

On another note, I've finally cracked and paid for a Pro account on Flickr, so the Amazin Race photos should get posted this summer. This time I really mean it. If anybody still has photos from that event, please get them to myself or Capt Gerbrandt ASAP.

This post is to test out the capability to integrate video into our blog. This is so that we may add videos to our new YouTube channel in the near future.

Blog Update

I made a quick update to the blog today during my lunch break. I think it looks much cleaner and easier to read. What do you think? Let us know in the comments by registering. Any other changes you'd like to see? Content you think we should add? Is there something you want us to blog about? Add it to the comments.

BTW, I also added an easy way to share or re-post these blogs posts. I have a button available in the bottom right of this post that provides an easy way to share on Facebook, Technorati, del.icio.us, and more. I'm still trying for Twitter support. Note that if you are viewing this post from that main page, you won't be able to see that button, you have to go to the actual post, where you would see the comments too.

I just added a few pictures from the Tri-Service Volleyball Tournament and Optimist Club Flag Party to the Photo Album for anyone interested.

Calendar Problems

Tagged in: Website

I've heard tonight that a few Cadets and parents have been having issues seeing the calendar. Please DO NOT bookmark the calendar as a favorite. Always follow the site links to it, as I'm constantly making changes to this site, and the link may change constantly. If that still doesn't work please leave a comment on this post describing the steps you took and what you are seeing. It would greatly help in fixing the issue. Thank you.

I've just finished adding a new website feature - comments! That's right, you can now post a comment on any of the posts on the site, giving us feedback, or asking questions for clarification.

In order to leave a comment, you must register first. You can do that by clicking on the "login" link in the left panel, and then "register." Easy. So go ahead give it a shot. Leave a comment on this post and let me know how it works.

BTW, in order  to see past comments made by other users, just click on the title of the blog post. Comments will not show up on the main page. Oh, and you can only leave a comment for the first 14 days after the post date.
