May 1, 1909: The first organization which would eventually become todays Cadet Instructor Cadre was organized. Trained and paid for by the Department of Militia and Defence, it was composed primarily of qualified male school teachers of the public schools of Canada to conduct drill and physical training in participating schools. Prior to this date, army cadet corps instructors were male school teachers at private boys' schools. They were volunteers, authorized on Dec 21, 1903 to hold military rank in the Militia and then eventually organized into the "Corps of School Cadet Instructors (Militia)".
May 1, 1921: The corps was disbanded for the purpose of reorganization and redesignated "Corps of School Cadet Instructor, Non-Permanent Active Militia".
