First and foremost, remember that this week is the final week to bring in your permission slips with your $5 if you want to attend Amazin' Race. Parents: if you want to volunteer but haven't made it to any meeting, and won't make it to the one on the meeting on 03 May, please write your name on your child's permission slip with your t-shirt size. There is no cost for volunteers.

This week is the last parade night of the month, which of course means CO's parade. Please come in full dress with your PT gear in a bag. Recruits - If you don't have a uniform yet, please wear your black t-shirt.

I know everyone's been dying to do another Fitness Test, so we will do one this week following parade. I'm not one for typing a lot if someone else has done the work already, so I'm going to steal the ACFT details from 2293 N Sask R RCACC's facebook page.

GENERAL
The Army Cadet Fitness Test (ACFT) is a four-section evaluation designed to give you knowledge about your own personal level of health and conditioning. Cadets Canada identifies the following objectives of the ACFT:
a. to identify a common standard of fitness;
b. to motivate cadets to participate in physical activities; c. to create interest in fitness through the provision of badges for proficiency;
d. to confirm the ability of a cadet to meet standards of performance for the National Star Certification Examination (NSCE); and
e. to encourage cadets to prepare to meet standards of fitness for Army Cadet Exchanges, Expeditions and Advanced Training Courses.
SECTIONS
The ACFT is divided into four sections:
1. Standing Long Jump
2. Sit Ups
3. Push Ups
4. 20m Shuttle Run (Beep Test)
There are three levels of proficiency:
1. Bronze
2. Silver
3. Gold
STANDARDS
To attain one of the levels of the ACFT, the cadet must meet the following standards: 1. meet or exceed the minimum in all 4 tests; and 2. meet or exceed the point value required based on the gender/age requirement.
The female ACFT standards.

The male ACFT standards.

This week is Shooting for  Silver and Gold Star Cadets, so cadetpat or civilians with unit t-shirt.

Dress is Summer Dress for all others.

Amazin' Race is on May 15. Please get your permission slips in with your $5 if you will be attending. If you lost or don't have your permission slip, you can download one here.

Also, there is a meeting for volunteers on MONDAY May 3rd in the Patterson Armoury Instructors' Room. We need a lot more volunteers so please show up (cadets, let your parents know.) More info here.

This Thursday is summer dress. Everyone MUST bring BOTH parts of their Cadet Parkas with them to cadets. This will allow us to make sure that everyone has one, as well as to check that nobody has got their inner/outer mixed up with someone else'.

On the note of parkas, everyone must also bring theirs on Saturday for the Olympic Torch Relay Event. Please remember to bring your slip in from last weeks note on Thursday.

Heads up: Next week, 21 Jan 2010, will be a Camp Info Night. Every cadet hoping to go to camp this summer MUST have a legal guardian with them for the evening. There have been many changes to the way camp is run that must be discussed. It would also be ideal for every cadet to have their correct Health Care Number with them, as well as contact information for your Family Doctor / Health Care Provider and Emergency Contact. This will help greatly in speeding up the process. A letter should be going home this Thursday with more info.

As Capt Gerbrandt is unable to access a computer, I am posting the email message for him. Evidently, Edmonton must be boring as it's much longer than usual.

Good day everyone,

As some of you know I am away this week in Edmonton and am unable to get on a computer to put in the weekly update on the website.

First off a couple of comments on this past weekend's exercise.  I rate it as an overall success and it was probably one of the most fun cadet exercises I have been on! Well done by all those who attended. This week (as well as the next 4 weeks) are extremely important for everyone to attend.  We need to make sure we have or parade format down and also work on displays for the parents, guests, and vip's coming to the parade, (it's ok Burgess I know you are in England or Scotland or somewhere else!). Please make sure your cadet is present at all activities.

Dress this week is beret, corps t shirt, belt, pants and boots please make sure they are pressed and the boots are shone.

Multon, Green, Malboeuf, Taylor, Wilson, Faushog, and Bainbridge have Expedition training this weekend and will need to be at the Armoury for pick up at 1730hrs on Friday.  Make sure you show up!  It could reflect highly in relation to any awards and such at the unit plus you need this to pass your star level.  Mr. Bradley will be attending with you and you will have a charter bus to yourselves for the trip!

For the parents, a letter went home with the cadets about our upcoming bottle drive on the 30th of May.  It is imperative and MANDATORY that all cadets show up for this activity.  At this time the corps funds are extremely low and this is a way for a quick influx of cash.  We need parents to help out to drive the cadets around to collect and to help organize at the old Canadian Tire parking lot on Dunmore Road.  We will be hitting Ross Glen specifically.  If you did not get the notice please ask your cadet for it.  We would like to get a heads up as to who will be available to help with this event.  If you need to you can reply to this email and I will ensure the organizing officers get the info!!!  Thank-you in advance!!!!

Well everyone asks about the fun things and I hope that participation in activities such as the bottle drive will continue so we can do the fun things too!  There will be 4 cadets chosen to participate in an activity on Sunday that will be a highlight to their cadet career.  That is all that is out at this time but be prepared!!!

Oh and one last thing, summer camp lists were sent out today and this is what we have at this time, if anyone can not or will not go on the course they have been given please advise me soonest.  You will need to submit a letter in writing to the CO with your reasons and your parents signature::::::

Good day everyone,

As a lot of cadets got new uniforms over the past two weeks we want to make sure that the badges are placed accordingly.

Please refer to our blog on the website for badge placement, hair cut requirements, and how to lace boots properly.  The dress for this week for all cadets is full dress uniform with beret, jacket, green dress shirt, tie, belt, boots, and trousers.  Please ensure hair cuts are done and ladies hair is put up if it is more than 1 inch below the collar.  Also please make sure all badges are sewn on correctly.

Swimming on tuesday 1830-2100 at the leisure centre. Late cadets will have to pay their own way.

Amazing race entry forms are due for all cadets and parent volunteers who have not submitted them yet.  They are available at the unit and must be in by Thursday night. Late entries will NOT be accepted.  If you want to participate you must make the commitment.

Any Silver stars must let the CO know if they will be participating in the expedition training on may 8-10 by Thursday night.

Reminder that those who volunteered for the recruiting info booth and rattler run are to follow through with those obligations next weekend.

This week is regular training:

Dress: Full uniform with open collar.

Times: 1830hrs until 2115hrs

Bottle Drive is on Saturday!! This is a mandatory activity as the proceeds from this activity will be used to help purchase the Cadet Field Uniforms. All cadets are expected to attend and parents are required to drive the cadets around. Dress for Bottle Drive is Field Dress (combats whatever you have that are warm!)

NOTE: The website has been updated and can be accessed through www.salhcadets.org ! Please take time to explore!

Duty NCO (MCpl Faushaug) is also to report at 1815hrs.

We are looking for a unit photographer!!! Applications in the form of a written letter are being accepted for the next two weeks. Interviews will be held following that! If you are interested in this prestigious position please submit your letter/resume to the CO NLT 2100hrs on March 5th, 2009.

Thursday 5 February is a regular training night. Any camp forms that need to be submitted still must be completed and signed for this Thursday as the package will be sent to Edmonton on Friday!
