Dear Parent/Guardian and Cadet
Welcome back to what is looking to be another great training year with 2313 South Alberta Light Horse (Kiwanis) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.
There are a lot of ambitious plans for the new training year which our excellent team of staff members are working hard to implement. I’d like to take this time to share some important information on recurring complementary activities with you.
Band – Our Army Cadets train with the South Alberta Pipes and Drums. Practice is every Monday at 1830 (6:30pm) in the Cultural Centre parking lot. The band provides instruction in your choice of bagpipes, bass drum, snare drum, or tenor. For more information on band, you can speak to Captain Girling.
Range – There will be range practice on every second Sunday starting 19 September. It is important that you attend if you want to be a member of either the Biathlon or Shooting Team. For more information on Range days, contact Lieutenant Gebhardt.
Running Team – If you are looking to improve your fitness level, then this is an ideal activity. Running Team will meet every Tuesday (with the exception of swim nights) starting in October at the Kin Coulee Band Stand. This is also important to attend if you want to be a member of the Biathlon Team. For more information on Running Team, see Second Lieutenant Bradley.
Swim Nights – Swim Nights are scheduled to occur on the last Tuesday of every month at the Family Leisure Centre. Cadets are encouraged to bring a friend to this activity. Swimming is free so long as you arrive prior to payment at 1830. You may contact CI Macdonald for more information on this.
Honour Guard – Honour Guard forms the pride and joy of the unit and plays an important role to our public. Honour Guard events include forming the flag party for weekly parades, forming the Cenotaph for Remembrance and Decoration Day ceremonies, participating in the Provincial Tri-Service Drill Competition, and forming flag parties for other events such as the Optimist Club and Medicine Hat College Convocation. This team is about a lot more than just drill and is a very fun and rewarding team to be on. For more details on Honour Guard, contact Captain Gerbrandt.
Important to note: members of the Biathlon or Shooting Team may not be members of the Drill Team due to the high demand of work that these teams require.
